MFHD Graduate faculty can be grouped into five categories: family studies and family process; adolescence and emerging adulthood; adult development and aging; child development; marriage. These groupings will help you as you write your letter of intent. Select a research field that interests you, click on a faculty member’s name and read articles associated with that field of study. Also consider reading articles on that area from scholars outside the department. As you write your statement of intent, mention your selected research area. This will help the admissions committee select an advisor for you based on your research interests. If you do not have a strong preference for one area it would be appropriate to mention more than one in your letter.
