Child and Family Studies Laboratory

The Child and Family Studies Laboratory is home to the BYU preschool and kindergarten. Children can enroll in our fall-winter preschool or kindergarten programs. A summer program including preschool, pre-kindergarten and post-kindergarten classes are offered during BYU’s summer term.

The Child and Family Studies Laboratories curriculum centers on project work. We integrate our curriculum to address the whole child, thus focusing daily on the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of each student. Research is an active component in the BYU kindergarten and preschool thus ensuring the implementation of up-to-date practices in meeting the assessed needs of each student.  We actively involve parents in the education of their children in the classroom as well as extending the learning into the home.

Preschool Information:  Applications are accepted each January through April 1st. Generally, placement is made in the following order: dependent children of BYU faculty/administrators, staff, students, and community.  Because our focus is to prepare children to enter kindergarten the following year, children must be 4 years-old by September 1st in order to attend our program.

Kindergarten Information:  Applications are accepted each January through April 1st.   Children must be 5 years old by September in order to qualify for our program.

Summer Program Information:  For the summer program, children should be 4 years old for the preschool class, 5 years old for the pre-kindergarten class, and 6 years old for the post-kindergarten class.
