If your passion is families, you have found the right place. Whether you are interested in the development of children, adolescents, parenting, marital relationships, older adults, family finances, helping families, or teaching about family life, you will find that the School of Family Life has something for you.
Over 1,000 current undergraduate students have chosen to major in Family Life, where they choose from one of three emphases: Home and Family Living, Human Development, and Marriage and Family Studies. Some students major in Family and Consumer Sciences Education, which prepares them to teach Family and Consumer Science courses in junior highs and high schools.
The School also has two graduate programs, which include about 85 students. The Marriage and Family Therapy Program prepares students to become licensed marriage and family therapists, while the Marriage, Family, and Human Development Graduate Program trains students to be teachers, community leaders, and researchers.
There are nearly 40 professors who teach in the School of Family Life. These professors take pride in providing excellent classroom learning experiences for students; many of them have received teaching awards. Besides interacting with professors in the classroom, students are given opportunities to work in more individualized settings with professors as they collaborate on research projects.
Indeed, professors in the School of Family Life are conducting state-of-the-art research on family life, marriage, children, and the elderly. The quality and impact of this research is being recognized by family scholars across the country. In the last year, alone, studies from our professors have been highlighted in USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and on numerous television news programs.
We invite you to explore the information contained in the School of Family Life web pages. I think you will be impressed with the many opportunities that the School of Family Life gives students to learn about families and the development of family members.
