FAMILY LIFE (BS)
Areas of Emphasis
- Home and Family Living (HFL) An emphasis in Home and Family Living (HFL) is an opportunity for students to examine home living as the center for everyday family life and as the basis for a vital community. Students gain knowledge and skills related to everyday life at home to foster wellness and provident living in meeting practical family needs such as food, housing, clothing, and finance.
- Human Development (HD) An emphasis in Human Development (HD) is an opportunity for students to learn about theories, research, and practices related to optimal human development in the context of marriage and family life throughout the life course. Students learn how children, youth, adults, and families develop, change, interact, and face challenges during infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood.
- Marriage and Family Studies (MFS) An emphasis in Marriage and Family Studies (MFS) provides an opportunity for students to learn about processes that are associated with optimal development, family strengths, and family dysfunctions in normative and non-normative stages of individual and family development.
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES EDUCATION (BS)
Family and Consumer Sciences Education (FACS Ed) Academic preparation in this interdisciplinary education program includes study in the areas of early childhood development, marriage and family relationships, parenting education, housing and interiors, clothing and textiles, and nutrition and wellness. With the development of a knowledge base in these critical areas, graduates will be prepared to provide valuable content to secondary education students as they confront life's challenges. These students can become a resource to their own families empowering them to become healthy community contributors.
This program interfaces with the McKay School of Education and includes professional education courses. The family and consumer sciences education program prepares students to be licensed by the State of Utah for teaching in the secondary schools. This teaching license can be transferred to other states upon meeting individual state requirements. Students may also find employment in Business and Cooperative Extension.
