Child life specialist certification requirements

To be certified, you need:
· A bachelor's degree with the 10 required classes
· During your Undergrad time – Internships/Volunteering with Children
· 600 hour internship (Applied through the Child Life Organization)
· Complete Eligibility Assessment
· Pass the Child Life Professional Certification Exam

Child Development (2 courses)
· *SFL 331 – Infant Development
· *SFL 333 – Adolescent Development
· SFL 351- Social Development
· SFL 352- Cognitive Development
· SFL 354- Cross-Cultural /Family & Human Development

Family Systems
· SFL 160- Intro to Family Processes

Play
· SFL 357- Therapeutic Play

Loss/Bereavement or Death/Dying
· SFL 306- Death and Dying

Research
· SFL 290- Critical Inquiry & Research Methods

3 Additional courses in Human Development
Some recommended courses:
· SFL 210 - Human development
· Cell 220- Human Anatomy
· Cell 305- Human Physiology
· NURS 102- Medical Terminology (only taught through Independent Study)
· Psych courses that are related to human development
· Additional Human Development courses can be approved by the Child Life organization.
